Everyone Has a Story

Sometimes you have to look back in time and in records to find the backstories that just must be told. This blog focuses on my long-time interest in family history, especially in my roots and those of my husband. You’ll learn a lot about the history of our families in the Midwest United States, England, Ireland, Germany, Scotland, Luxembourg and beyond.

I’ve been fascinated with the stories of the past that helped shape the present since I was a child, sitting on my grandparents’ couch and visiting with them about their interests, lives and families. I heard about what it was like to grow up during The Great Depression and how the farm where I grew up was started by my Irish immigrant great-great grandfather. I also heard “legends” galore, including some possible famous people who may be connected to our family. I learned so much, but more importantly, I got to know my grandparents really well. Now that I’m older, I have so many more questions to ask them, but sadly they’re no longer here to answer.

I always thought it was pretty cool that the great-grandparents I knew as a kid where all born in the late 1800s. I still feel a connection with them. This is my way of telling their stories – and many other backstories.
